Content-promotion

Does your blog or website get hundreds of thousands of readers?

If the answer is no, there are many things that you can be doing to help build readership and get people viewing your content.

Beyond content marketing basics, we are going to take you through a few alternative steps that will help get your written content out to a wider audience.

1. Ask an Influencer in Your Industry for a Quote

Reaching out to popular influencers in your field and asking them for a quote for your content can definitely help drive traffic. Simply reach out to a few influencers and ask them if they would be willing to provide their point of view on your chosen topic.

If you are wondering how you can go about reaching out to influencers, try email, Twitter, Facebook or even a service like BuzzStream. This service allows you to receive contact information for influencers in your field by simply posting a topic on the site. Just remember that if you share an influencers quote, it is common practice to also include a link to their site or social media page.

Once you have collected the relevant quote you can add them to your blog and then reach out the influencer to let them know they have been quoted in your article. Chances are they will want to share it amongst their followers and friends too, which opens your content up to a whole new market.

This not only helps you to gain more traffic but it also helps to build your credibility. Just keep in mind that if you are still starting out with developing your brand and name, it make take a while to find a suitable influencer.

2. Create Highlights for Social Media

Once you have written your content, go through your article and create about 10-20 highlights that could be easily shared on social media sites like Twitter.

You really want to go after highlights that provide some insight into the title of your post, perhaps offer some type of statistic, or perhaps challenge the readers to want to find out more.

Whatever highlights you choose, make sure they are engaging and give away just enough to peak your audiences curiosity. You definitely don’t want to give away the punch line in your social media updates.

Once you have all your highlights, space out when you are going to share them. You obviously don’t want to keep sharing the same post on social media again and again, so spread your highlights out over a 1-2 month period.

3. Connect with People Who Share Similar Content

Connecting with people who have shared similar content to what you are writing is a great way to grow your audience and get more followers.

It may take a little time, but select a popular blog or website that is in your field and then search through social media platforms like Twitter to find people who have shared their articles.

Once you have found some “die-hard” followers of your competing blogs and websites, reach out to them and start a conversation about their posts. You can then start to share some of your own content as a way to offer your point of view or an alternative resource.

This strategy helps to build a relationship and will also hopefully get your content shared as much as the big blogs you are trying to compete with.

4. Link to Other Content

A great way to organically boost your traffic and the average number of pages your visitors look at is to provide links to similar articles within the same post.

This is an obvious one, but you can also take it to a whole new level by providing a list of your most popular or trending content in the sidebar.

You can use platforms like Google Analytics or Social Crawlytics to determine which of your posts are most popular and then categorise them in order.

People are always curious as to what the popular topics and trends are, so definitely capitalise here by making it easy for your guests to find your most talked about posts.

5. Submit to Content Sites

It’s one thing to share on social media but there are also a number of sites that allow you to submit your content so their audience can see it. There is usually a lot of competition on sites like these, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t at least give it a shot.

Some of these sites include Blog Engage, Sulia, BizSugar, Triberr and TribePro. You can also try reaching out to more obscure social media sites like Flipboard, Reddit and Disqus.

6. Create Content Ads

There are many paid services that now promote content on other people’s content. Usually you see this on sites with the tag- “you might also like” or “other stories from around the web”.

This is a much better strategy than something like Google Adwords because it is usually much cheaper and the ads are integrated better onto the site.

Some ad platforms that will advertise your content on other blogs include, Outbrain, LinkWithin, Taboola and nRelate.

There are many other ways to share your content other than the traditional social media platforms. Branch out and see what other creative ideas you can come up with.
